Mental illness, also known as depression or anxiety, is considered a state of imbalance. Depression is usually affected by the right side of the brain and a good way to elevate the right side of the hemisphere is breathing through the Right Nostril.
Right Nostril Breathing (RNB) has a stimulating effect on the body and mind. If someone is suffering from a severe depressive state, their energy may be elevated with RNB as described in video to the right.
Anxiety, is also a form of mental illness, usually affected by the left side of the brain. A simple way to elevate the left side of the brain hemisphere is by practicing Left Nostril Breathing (LNB).
LNB has a cooling or calming effect on the body and mind. If someone is feeling anxious, experiencing a panic attack or has feelings of being overwhelmed, a few rounds of LNB will help to reduce these debilitating feelings as described in video to the right.
Sun Salutations Yoga Flow, or Surya Namaskar in Sanskrit, is an ancient yoga sequence of flows to express gratitude to the sun.
Sun Salutations consists of many foundational asanas or poses for every "body" of all levels. It is a wonderful warming sequence for any practice, but an especially glorious way to start your day!
Sun Salutations may be performed as part of yoga flow sequence or on it's own when we are short on time.
Moon Salutations Yoga Flow, or Chandra Namaskar in Sanskrit, is an ancient yoga sequence of flows honoring the moon.
Moon Salutations also consists of foundational asanas or poses for every "body" of all levels. It is a soothing , although empowering flow, a perfect way to wind down at the end of your day!
Moon Salutations may shift energy without increasing body heat and tend to be less stimulating than Sun Salutations, thereby relaxing and calming the mind and body as well as restoring overall balance.
Moon Salutations may also be performed as part of a yoga flow sequence or on it's own when we need to wind down from a particularly stressful day.
Our lives have become so busy, filled with work commitments, family obligations and domestic tasks that we ignore what is going on "within"! Enjoy this 5 minute breather, a mini meditation to pause and reset.
